How to Order DIRECTV PPV Without The Internet

Q. How can I get DIRECTV Pay-Per-View movies without an Internet connection on my set-top? -- Courtney, Miami, Florida.

Courtney, there are a few ways you can order DIRECTV's Pay-Per-View movies without having your set-top connected to the Internet. You also don't need a land-based phone line.

First, go to on your computer or mobile device and sign in to your account. If you don't have an account, the on-screen prompts will help you set one up.

Next, find the movie you want to watch by typing its title in the Search box at the top of the web page. Your movie will appear under the Entertainment section in the search results. (FYI -- here's a partial list of movies now available via Pay Per View.)

Then, click on the Order button and follow the prompts on screen to confirm your purchase.

Finally, go to the Pay-Per-View channel (PPV channels are between 100-200) where the movie is playing; the channel number will be listed in the Order box as will the time it's scheduled to play next. You can then watch the movie on that channel. (Note: DIRECTV's web site says you go to channel 1100 to watch the movie; that's wrong. Channel 1100 is DIRECTV's On Demand movies, not its Pay-Per-View movies. See more on this below.)

You can also order by using the text feature on your cell phone. Text "Order" to the number 223322 and then follow the prompts.

The last way to order without your set-top connected to the Net: Order by phone. Call 1-800-531-5000 and, when prompted, say "Order Pay-Per-View." You can then select your movie by following the prompts.

Now here's what you can't order without an Internet connection. DIRECTV has a library of more than 10,000 of movies and TV shows that you can order 'On Demand.' (See web page for more information.) You need your HD DVR connected to the Internet to order an 'On Demand' title.

The reason: When you order the movie, DIRECTV actually downloads it via the Net to your set-top's Playlist. The download requires an Internet connection.
