How to Watch Aereo On Your Roku
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (April 12, 2014) - Editor's Note: TV's Answer Man, aka Swanni, takes your questions regarding how to best use the latest products and services in TV technology. If you have a question about TV technology, ask TV's Answer Man by sending an e-mail to swann@tvpredictions.com

Q. I have Aereo and I hear that you can watch it on my Roku box. But I don't see the channel listed anywhere. Can you help? -- Yardley, Baltimore, Maryland.

Yardley, Aereo, the local TV channel service that's now available in 11 markets (including Baltimore), can be viewed on mobile devices and computers. However, it can also be watched on your TV screen via the Apple TV box (using AirPlay) and the Roku Net TV set-top.

However, you don't see the channel listed on your Roku box because it's regarded as a "private channel," which means you have to add it manually to your channel list.

Here's how you can do it, according to Aereo:

First, log on to your Aereo.com account and click on Settings (it's the Gear Icon). Then, click on 'Click on Roku'

This will take you to the 'Add Channel' page at Roku.com (be sure you are logged on to Roku.com, too). At this point, you may be asked for a code to add a channel. The code is aereo

Then, click on the 'Yes, add channel' button. After you've done that, find the Aereo channel on the Home Screen on your Roku box and Select it. A code will appear on screen, which means you will have to insert this code at Aereo.com. To do this, you go back to the Link With Roku menu at Aereo's web site and, under Settings, type in the code to link your Roku account with your Aereo account.

After it's been linked, your Roku-connected TV screen should change to the Main Menu page of Aereo so you can watch your local channels.

It may sound a bit complicated, but it's a one-time process. After you've authorized your account once, the Aereo channel will be in your Roku channel list in the future.
